Designed for those with stylish minds, join art and fashion historian April Calahan for this 90-minute, around-the-world, private tour of The Met’s permanent collection.
You will see The Met as never before as we seek out the museum's hidden recesses in pursuit of some of the most fashionable artworks in history. Learn about the elaborate beauty rituals of Ancient Egypt and why 18th century aristocrats powdered their wigs as we explore historic cosmetic practices. Travel back in time to discover the fashionistas of the Renaissance who cemented the color black as fashion’s favorite color for centuries to come. From the traditional sustainability practices inherent to Native American clothing to the Impressionist painter Edouard Manet’s taboo depictions of women in pants, this tour unravels the incredible stories of the fashionable tastemakers depicted in 10 of The Met’s greatest masterpieces.
Highlights include additional works by the Neoclassical painter Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and pop artist Andy Warhol.
