In this two-part, eight class series, you will acquire the skills and knowledge to properly date and identify fashions from the 1850s to the 1960s, a period marked by seismic transformations in women's fashion.
Registration is now open for part one of this two-part series. It includes four, one hour live online courses covering the 1850s to the 1920s.
The class will meet at 1030am PST/130pm EST, the 2nd Sunday of every month, from January 21st to April 21st, 2024. A recommended reading/resource list will accompany each class. A recording of each class session will be made available for one week after the live class.
The cost is $100 for all four classes. Classes cannot be taken individually.
From the wide hoop skirts of the 1850s to the bustles of the 70s and 80s to the leg 'o mutton sleeves of the 90s, in this two-part class we will get up close and personal with the many innovations and foundational garments that quite literally shaped and transformed women's fashions in the latter half of the nineteenth century.
In this two part class, we will head into the dawn of the twentieth century and the modern era of women's fashion. We will start by looking at the "S-bend" or "pouter pigeon" silhouette that was supported by the most restrictive corset in the history of fashion. that defined women's fashion in the early years of the 1900s before
